CREATE Creo Parameters from Excel

Overview

This video demonstrates how to create new Creo parameters on parts and assemblies directly from an Excel spreadsheet using Nitro-BOM. Rather than manually opening each component in Creo and adding parameters one at a time through the Parameters dialog, Nitro-BOM lets you define parameter names, types, and values in Excel and then push them into your Creo models in bulk. This is a massive time-saver when you need to add new metadata — such as cost, vendor, revision, or custom tracking fields — across dozens or hundreds of components. The video covers how to structure your Excel data so Nitro-BOM can correctly interpret which parameters to create on which models, how to specify parameter types (string, integer, real, yes/no), and how to handle designation settings. After the import, each Creo model will have the new parameters with the values you specified in the spreadsheet.

Key Steps

  1. Export your current BOM to Excel to get the component list as a starting point
  2. Add new columns in Excel for each parameter you want to create
  3. Fill in the parameter values for each component row
  4. Configure Nitro-BOM to run in Create Parameters mode
  5. Execute the import to push the new parameters into your Creo models
  6. Verify the parameters were created by checking a few components in Creo

Tips

  • Always back up your Creo models before bulk-creating parameters
  • Double-check parameter names for typos — Creo parameter names are case-sensitive
  • Use the export-then-modify workflow: export first, add columns, then import back
