MAP Creo Parameter Names to BOM Column Titles

Overview

This video shows how to map Creo parameter names to custom BOM column titles using Nitro-BOM. Creo parameter names are often technical and abbreviated — names like PTC_MATERIAL_NAME, VENDOR_PN, or ENG_REV — which aren't ideal for reports shared with procurement, manufacturing, or management. Nitro-BOM's parameter mapping feature lets you define a translation table that converts internal Creo parameter names into human-readable column headers in your Excel BOM reports. For example, PTC_MATERIAL_NAME becomes "Material", VENDOR_PN becomes "Vendor Part Number", and so on. The video walks through setting up the mapping configuration, applying it to your exports, and maintaining a consistent mapping across your team. This ensures your BOM reports are professional and understandable by non-Creo users, while keeping your Creo parameter names unchanged. The mapping works bidirectionally — it also translates column headers back to parameter names during imports.

Key Steps

  1. Identify the Creo parameter names you want to map to friendlier column titles
  2. Open the Nitro-BOM mapping configuration
  3. Define each mapping: Creo parameter name → desired Excel column title
  4. Save the mapping configuration for reuse
  5. Run a BOM export to see the mapped column titles in your Excel report

Tips

  • Maintain a standard mapping file shared across your team for consistent reports
  • Mappings work in both directions — exports use friendly names, imports translate back to Creo names
  • This is especially useful when sharing BOM data with non-engineering stakeholders
