EXCLUDE Creo Models from BOM Reports

Overview

This video shows how to exclude specific Creo models from Nitro-BOM's BOM reports. Not every component in a Creo assembly belongs in the final BOM — tooling fixtures, reference geometry, construction parts, and phantom assemblies are common examples of items that should be omitted from procurement and manufacturing BOMs. Nitro-BOM provides a mechanism to flag certain models for exclusion so they are automatically skipped during export. The video demonstrates how to configure exclusion rules, whether by model name patterns, parameter values, or manual selection. Once configured, excluded models won't appear in your Excel BOM reports, keeping the output clean and focused on the components that actually need to be purchased, manufactured, or tracked. This feature is essential for producing accurate BOMs that match what your manufacturing floor or purchasing department actually needs.

Key Steps

  1. Identify which models in your assembly should be excluded from BOM reports
  2. Configure the exclusion criteria in Nitro-BOM (by name pattern, parameter, or selection)
  3. Run a BOM export to verify the excluded models are omitted
  4. Review the exported Excel file to confirm only relevant components appear
  5. Save the exclusion configuration for future exports

Tips

  • Common exclusions include skeleton models, tooling, reference parts, and phantom assemblies
  • Use parameter-based exclusion rules for consistent, automated filtering
  • Review exclusions periodically to ensure new components aren't accidentally filtered out
