Exporting Creo BOM Data to Excel Overview

Overview

This video provides a high-level introduction to Nitro-BOM's core capability: exporting Bill of Materials data from PTC Creo Parametric assemblies directly into Microsoft Excel. Nitro-BOM reads the assembly structure, traverses all components, and extracts parameter values — such as part numbers, descriptions, materials, and custom attributes — into a structured Excel workbook. The export captures the full assembly hierarchy, including sub-assemblies and individual parts, and organizes the data into clearly formatted rows and columns. This overview walks through the general workflow: opening an assembly in Creo, launching Nitro-BOM, configuring which parameters to export, and generating the Excel report. It demonstrates how Nitro-BOM bridges the gap between Creo's native BOM tools and the flexible reporting and analysis capabilities of Excel, enabling engineers to quickly share, review, and manipulate BOM data outside of Creo.

Key Steps

  1. Open a Creo assembly that contains the BOM data you want to export
  2. Launch Nitro-BOM from within the Creo session
  3. Configure the export settings, including which parameters to include
  4. Execute the export to generate an Excel workbook
  5. Review the resulting spreadsheet with your full BOM hierarchy and parameter data

Tips

  • Ensure all components in your assembly are loaded before exporting for a complete BOM
  • Use simplified representations if you only need data from specific sub-assemblies
  • The exported Excel file can serve as a starting point for further Nitro-BOM operations like parameter creation or modification
